Uganda Expansion and Operations Specialist (Fixed-Term)
About One Acre Fund
Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund supplies 1 million smallholder farmers with the agricultural services they need to make their farms vastly more productive. Our 8,000+ team is drawn from diverse backgrounds and professions. With operations across six core countries in Africa, we make farmers more prosperous by providing quality farm supplies on credit, delivered within walking distance of farmers’ homes, and agricultural training to improve harvests. On average, the farmers we serve harvest 50 percent more food after working with One Acre Fund.
Our Uganda program, founded in 2014, provides 27,500 farmers with quality farm supplies, training and extension services, and access to markets. Our team in Uganda is headquartered in Jinja, close to the districts we serve, and supported by a small presence in Kampala. To learn more about our work, look at our Uganda program blog.
About the Role
You will launch and lead an expansion region; this entails identification of areas of expansion through expansion planning, scouting potential areas of expansion, hiring and onboarding of staff, and managing all program operations with an eye on execution rigor and excellence across farmer enrolment and extension, input sales, market-access, and training
You will report to the Program Lead, managing 1 to 2 staff directly and a large team under them. You'll work on-site: for the first six months, you will most likely operate within Mukono but will move to a region in Western Uganda afterwards.
Responsibilities
- You will use research and data to identify and select new high growth, high impact areas of expansion in the predetermined districts for expansion.
- You will identify, locate and set up the requisite infrastructure needed to operate the program in new expansion areas.
- You will also initiate and maintain productive partner relationships in new program areas.
- You will hire and train a wider team of field officers and field managers in the working processes of the program.
- You will develop systems to achieve the regional program vision
Career Growth and Development
We have a strong culture of constant learning and we invest in developing our people. You’ll have weekly check-ins with your manager, access to mentorship and training programs, and regular feedback on your performance. We hold career reviews every six months, and set aside time to discuss your aspirations and career goals. You’ll have the opportunity to shape a growing organization and build a rewarding long-term career.
Qualifications
Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Business, Economics, Engineering, Statistics, Natural and Conservation Sciences, or related fields.
